Lake Duluti is a volcanic crater lake in the Arusha region of Tanzania, on the eastern edge of the eastern branch of the Great Rift Valley; only 14km from Arusha town. It is located in Meru District near the town of Tengeru. Glide across the smooth surface of this small Crater Lake and view birdlife seldom seen; Giant kingfisher, Fish eagle, Darters and many more. Surrounded by forested crater walls this is a very special and quiet 1½hr canoeing experience. View hundreds of cattle egrets returning to an island in the lake to roost for the night.
Attractions at the Lake Duluti area include the lake itself. This is a crater lake that was formed by volcanic activities and has a depth of 700m (including the rim top) surrounded by a forest. It has an area of 60 hectares with fresh non-saline water, which supports the livelihood of other creatures like snakes, lizards and fish but also serve as water source to surrounding communities. The rims of the lake are the major determinants if the moist forest, which surrounds the whole lake. It is full of water throughout the year and there is no any surface inlet or outlet of the water. The main source main source of water is the underground springs. This lake is an important attractive feature for eco-tourism activities like canoeing and sport fishing, which are currently being undertaken for recreational purposes.
The attractive forest with four different vegetation habitats with an area of 26.88 ha is another attraction in the area. It creates beautiful environment, which accommodate life of birds, small animals like velvet monkeys and squirrels. It comprises woody and non-woody plants, woody climbers and trees of various species which attract tourists.
Natural caves, a floating island and the old state plot are other attractions that can be observed while in the area.
