The Machame Route

The Machame route, also referred to as the Whiskey route, is one of the mostpopular routes on Kilimanjaro and a favorite for us. Machame route is one of the highest summit success rates given the topography and nature of the route which allows climbers to trek high &sleep low; hence making it a more favorable route for acclimatization. This route offers some of the most spectacular scenery while on the mountain. The Machame route starts in the south west side of the mountain and proceeds steeply north, traversing the Shira plateau and eventually joining the Shira and Lemosho route just after the Shira cave camp. The Machame route can be done in minimum 6 days or 7 days trek is recommended to allow climbers been well rested and acclimation before making the final ascent to the summit.

The Lemosho Route

The Lemosho route, also referred to as the longest route, is one of the becoming popular route on Kilimanjaro and favorite for us. Lemosho route is one of the highest summit success rates given the topography and nature of the route which allows climbers to trek high and sleep low, Hence making it a more favorable route for acclimatization .this route offers some of the most spectacular scenery while on the mountain .the Lemosho route starts on the North West side of the mountain and proceeds steeply north, traversing the Shira plateau and eventually joining the Shira and Machame routes just after Shira II camp. The Lemosho route can be done in minimum 7 days but an 8 days trek is recommended to allow climbers been well rested and acclimatized before making the final ascent to the summit.

The Marangu Route

Marangu Route is the most popular trail with spectacular features such as deep rich Montane forest of the south-eastern slopes, the flowers into Maundi Crater and the wind-blown high-altitude desert of the Saddle adds other scenic views from Horombo via Mawenzi to Kibo on a day 2 &3 from Horombo Huts to Kibo. Marangu Trail can also be climbed for 6 days for those wishing to acclimatize having an extra day to rest. Note this itinerary is for just 6 days/ 5nights.

The Umbwe Route is more challenging than the other ones because it follows a steeper trail in the beginning. We recommend it to those in good physical shape. Besides, it takes the climbers to higher camps faster than other routes. So having prior acclimatization is advisable. Like Machame, it passes through a beautiful rainforest. You can see colobuses and blue monkeys there.
