Once the briefing is complete, you will begin your scenic drive to Kibale National Park in western Uganda. The journey offers spectacular views of rolling hills, rural villages, farms, and lush greenery that make Uganda known as the “Pearl of Africa.”

On the way, you will stop in the charming town of Fort Portal for lunch. This region is famous for its beautiful landscapes and tea plantations that stretch across the hillsides. Day 2

Chimpanzee Trekking and Bigodi Wetland Walk

The second day of your safari is the highlight of the trip. After an early breakfast, your guide will take you to the visitor center at Kibale National Park for an official briefing from park rangers.

During the briefing, you will learn important guidelines about chimpanzee trekking, including safety rules, trekking etiquette, and conservation efforts to protect these incredible primates.

Once the briefing is complete, you will enter the dense forest in small groups accompanied by experienced guides and trackers. The trekking experience can take anywhere from two to six hours depending on the location of the chimpanzee families on that particular day.

As you move through the rainforest, you will encounter a variety of wildlife and plant species. Kibale Forest is home to several primates such as black-and-white colobus monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, red-tailed monkeys, and L’Hoest’s monkeys. The forest also shelters colorful bird species, butterflies, and towering tropical trees.

Eventually, your trackers will locate a group of chimpanzees moving through the forest canopy or resting on the ground. Once they are found, visitors are allowed to spend one full hour observing them in their natural habitat.

This is a truly unforgettable moment. You may watch them communicate, groom each other, forage for food, or swing gracefully through the trees. Observing these intelligent animals up close often creates a deep connection with nature and a greater appreciation for wildlife conservation.

After the trek, you will return to the lodge for lunch and some relaxation.

Later in the afternoon, the safari continues with a guided walk in Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a community-run conservation area located near the park.

This swamp walk is known for its rich biodiversity and excellent birdwatching opportunities. During the walk, visitors may spot primates such as baboons, red-tailed monkeys, and other small mammals including bush pigs and otters. Bird lovers will also have the chance to see unique species like the great blue turaco along with many other wetland birds.

The walk through Bigodi also offers cultural insights as the sanctuary is managed by the local community, making it an important example of sustainable tourism.

After this rewarding day filled with wildlife encounters, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
