Daily Itinerary

Day 1

Mombasa to Tsavo East National Park – Afternoon Game Drive

Your safari begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Mombasa by a professional driver guide from Kei Tours and Safaris Ltd. From here, you will drive along the Mombasa–Nairobi Highway toward Tsavo East National Park, one of the largest and oldest wildlife parks in Kenya.

The drive takes around five hours and passes through scenic countryside, small villages, and farmland, offering a glimpse into rural Kenyan life.

After arriving at your safari lodge, you will check in and enjoy lunch followed by some time to relax before your first game drive.

Tsavo East is famous for its wide open plains, red soil landscapes, and large populations of wildlife. The Galana River flows through the park, attracting animals such as elephants, buffalo, zebras, giraffes, and many bird species.

During your afternoon game drive, keep your camera ready as you may encounter lions, gazelles, ostriches, baboons, and possibly even a leopard moving through the golden savannah.

After the game drive, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2

Full Day Game Drives in Tsavo East

After an early breakfast, you will set out for a full day of wildlife exploration in Tsavo East National Park.

The park’s landscape is mostly flat and dry, which makes wildlife spotting easier. The Galana River supports a variety of animals including hippos and Nile crocodiles that are often seen basking along the riverbanks.

Tsavo East is also known for its legendary “Man-Eater Lions of Tsavo.” These lions became famous in the early 1900s when they attacked railway workers during the construction of the Kenya–Uganda railway.

During the day, you will visit the Aruba Dam, a popular watering hole where animals gather to drink. It is one of the best places in the park to observe elephants, buffalo, antelopes, and many species of birds.

With more than 500 recorded bird species, Tsavo East is also a great destination for bird lovers.

After a day filled with wildlife viewing, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3

Tsavo East to Tsavo West National Park

After breakfast, you will depart for Tsavo West National Park, which lies about 120 km from Tsavo East.

Although the two parks form part of the same ecosystem, Tsavo West offers a completely different landscape. Here you will find rolling hills, volcanic formations, acacia woodlands, and rocky outcrops that create breathtaking scenery.

After arriving at your lodge, enjoy lunch and relax before heading out for an afternoon game drive.

Wildlife in Tsavo West includes elephants, rhinos, lions, cheetahs, leopards, hippos, and buffalo. The park’s varied habitats make it an exciting place for wildlife photography.

One of the highlights of the park is Mzima Springs, a natural oasis of crystal-clear water that originates from underground streams flowing from nearby hills. The springs are home to crocodiles, hippos, and large schools of fish.

A special underwater viewing chamber allows visitors to observe life beneath the water’s surface, offering a unique safari experience.

After exploring the springs and surrounding areas, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4

Tsavo West to Amboseli National Park

After breakfast, your safari continues to Amboseli National Park, one of Kenya’s most famous wildlife destinations.

On the way, you will pass the dramatic Shetani Lava Flow, a vast field of black volcanic rock created by an eruption about 200 years ago. The word “Shetani” means “devil” in Swahili, reflecting how local communities once viewed the fiery lava as it spread across the land.

Arrive at your lodge in Amboseli in time for lunch and some rest.

In the afternoon, head out for a game drive in the park. Amboseli is renowned for its massive elephant herds and incredible views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa.

Despite its dry appearance, the park contains lush wetlands fed by underground springs from Kilimanjaro. These wetlands attract many animals including elephants, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, and antelopes.

Predators such as lions, cheetahs, hyenas, and leopards are also frequently seen here.

Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5

Amboseli to Lake Nakuru National Park

After an early breakfast, depart for Lake Nakuru National Park, located in the Great Rift Valley. The journey takes approximately 7 to 8 hours with scenic views along the way and a lunch stop en route.

Upon arrival, check into your lodge and relax before heading out for an evening game drive.

Lake Nakuru is famous for its birdlife and is one of the best places in Kenya to see flamingos gathering along the lake’s shores. The park is also a protected sanctuary for endangered species such as the black rhino and white rhino.

Other wildlife commonly seen here includes Rothschild’s giraffes, buffalo, zebras, lions, leopards, hyenas, impalas, waterbucks, and baboons.

In addition to flamingos, the lake attracts pelicans, herons, cormorants, kingfishers, and African fish eagles, making it a paradise for birdwatchers.

After the game drive, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
