Overview

Mt. Meru which is Tanzania’s second highest mountain standing tall at 4,566m. It is located in Arusha National Park and offers some of the most spectacular scenery and wildlife diversity of any mountain in Tanzania.

4 Days Mount Meru Climbing is a great trekking option for those who want to take on a climbing challenge and get the sense of being out in the wild, but are not quite ready to tackle Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Daily Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Arusha

Upon your arrival in Arusha, Tanzania, you will be greeted by your guide and transferred to your hotel. Take some time to rest and acclimate to the altitude. In the evening, you will meet with your guide who will provide a briefing on the upcoming Mount Meru trek. Enjoy a delicious dinner and get a good night's sleep to prepare for the adventure ahead.
Day 2

Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut

After an early breakfast, drive to Momella Gate, the starting point of the Mount Meru trek. Complete the necessary registration formalities and begin your hike through the lush rainforest. Along the way, keep an eye out for wildlife such as black and white colobus monkeys, bushbucks, and various bird species. After a few hours of trekking, you will reach Miriakamba Hut (2,514 meters), where you will spend the night. Enjoy a hot dinner and take in the beautiful views of the surrounding forest.
Day 3

Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

After a hearty breakfast, continue your ascent towards Saddle Hut (3,570 meters). The trail becomes steeper as you leave the rainforest behind and enter the heather and moorland zone. Along the way, you will be rewarded with stunning views of Mount Meru's peak, as well as the scenic landscapes below. Arriving at Saddle Hut, take some time to rest and enjoy the surrounding scenery. In the afternoon, you can take a short acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820 meters) before returning to the hut for dinner and a good night's rest.
Day 4

Summit Day - Saddle Hut to Mount Meru Summit to Momella Gate

Today is the most challenging but rewarding day of the trek. Wake up before midnight and start your ascent to the summit of Mount Meru (4,566 meters). The trail is steep and rocky, requiring determination and endurance. As you make your way to the summit, you will witness a breathtaking sunrise over the surrounding peaks and the distant plains of Tanzania. Reach the summit, Uhuru Peak, and savor the sense of accomplishment as you take in the panoramic views. After spending some time at the summit, begin your descent back to Saddle Hut for a well-deserved rest and lunch. Continue descending to Momella Gate, where your Mount Meru trek concludes. Celebrate your achievement and bid farewell to your guide and the mountain. You will be transferred back to your hotel in Arusha, where you can enjoy a hot shower and a relaxing evening.
Day 5

Departure

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your onward journey or to your next destination. Take with you the memories of your incredible Mount Meru trek and the breathtaking landscapes you encountered along the way.
