The 8 Days Shira Route kilimanjaro approaches the summit from the west via Barafu camp and Stella Point, before descending via the Mweka Route and Millennium camp. The Shira Route is a little used trail that begins near Shira Ridge. It is nearly identical to the Lemosho route.

The 8 Days Shira Route kilimanjaro route gives a complete maximum time to acclimatization and also gives the perfect view of the glaciers on the crater rim, before joining with other routes and making the final ascent to the top.

Daily Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Arusha

Arrive in Arusha, Tanzania, and transfer to your hotel. Meet with your guide for a pre-climb briefing and equipment check. Rest and prepare for the upcoming trek.
Day 2

Arusha to Shira Gate to Shira Camp 1

After breakfast, drive to the Londorossi Gate, where you will complete the necessary registration procedures. From there, you will be driven to the Shira Gate (2,650 meters). Begin your hike through the rainforest, gradually ascending to Shira Camp 1 (3,505 meters). Enjoy dinner and spend the night at the camp.
Day 3

Shira Camp 1 to Shira Camp 2

Today's trek takes you across the Shira Plateau, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. You will hike through moorland and heather zones, reaching Shira Camp 2 (3,840 meters) for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4

Shira Camp 2 to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower

The trail today ascends to Lava Tower (4,630 meters), providing excellent acclimatization opportunities. After reaching Lava Tower, you will descend to Barranco Camp (3,950 meters). This descent helps your body adjust to the altitude and improves your chances of summiting successfully. Dinner and overnight stay at Barranco Camp.
Day 5

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Begin the day by tackling the Barranco Wall, a challenging section that requires some scrambling. Once you conquer the wall, the trail continues through alpine desert landscapes. Reach Karanga Camp (3,995 meters) for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Continue ascending through the barren alpine desert terrain towards Barafu Camp (4,673 meters). This campsite serves as the base for your summit attempt. Rest and prepare for the challenging night ahead. Dinner and overnight stay at Barafu Camp.
Day 7

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Wake up around midnight and start your summit bid. Trek through steep switchbacks and scree slopes, heading towards Stella Point (5,739 meters), located on the crater rim. From there, continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters), the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro. Celebrate your achievement, take photos, and then begin your descent to Mweka Camp (3,100 meters) for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Arusha

After breakfast, descend through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640 meters). Complete the check-out process and receive your summit certificates. From there, you will be driven back to your hotel in Arusha. Celebrate your successful Kilimanjaro climb with a well-deserved rest and a hot shower.
Day 9

Departure
